History
TKIA provides funds to students of African ancestry pursuing a Bachelor's degree. In 1982 1 gave two young men called "The Sons of Thunder" a few dollars to help them with personal expenses and encouraged them to succeed in college. They eventually became a Medical doctor/PhD and a Minister. I then began to see other students needing a little pocket change from a non-family member who encourages them to fulfill their dreams.

I decided to formalize my gift giving and mentoring by creating The Toothpaste Kid Incentive Award (TKIA). TKlA Scholars have a reputation for outstanding achievements. They are expected to continue to be the best they can be. They keep up the tradition of our African Ancestors:

EXCELLENCE AT ALL TIMES!
"The education of African people is an urgent necessity. It is a matter of life and death. We cannot abide another generation of children to have no identity and who are ignorant about Africa. Trusting our own cultural heritage, ancient and modern, we are in the best position to solve our own problems.

Self-acceptance and self-determination is the only possibility for our development and enhancement. " Asa G. Hillard, Ill
